Liberia TRC Project in Minneapolis / St. Paul |
Mirroring the TRC’s work in Liberia, The Advocates for Human Rights has a formal Memorandum of Understanding with the TRC to conduct statement taking from Liberians living throughout the United States. Individuals who give statements have access to counselors, immigration lawyers, and social service referrals. Information from interviews will be included in the TRC’s historical record.
Working with a National Advisory Committee, The Advocates piloted statement taking in the fall of 2006. The Advocates launched full statement taking in January 2007. The project was piloted in Minnesota and was extended to other parts of the U.S. and in summer 2007. Statement taking concluded in the diaspora in August 2008.
