Liberia TRC Project in Chicago
Mirroring the TRC’s work in Liberia, The Advocates for Human Rights has a formal Memorandum of Understanding with the TRC to conduct statement taking from Liberians living throughout the United States. The Chicago partnership team, including Schiff Hardin L.L.P., Artemus Gaye, Gaye Sleh, and the Organization of Liberians in Illinois, is working in collaboration with The Advocates to carry out this task. Volunteers in the Chicago community will assist those Liberians in Chicago who voluntarily come forward to tell their stories to the TRC. Individuals who give statements will have access to counselors, immigration lawyers, and social service referrals. Information from interviews will be included in the TRC’s historical record.

Volunteers in Chicago began taking statements through a pilot project directed by Sandra Babcock of Northwestern University School of Law. Ms. Babcock is currently on sabbatical and has turned over leadership to Thomas P. White of Schiff Hardin L.L.P.
